Best Greige Paint Colors
FYI: The 2024 Sherwin Williams color trends have just been released and you can see them all here: 2024 Sherwin Williams Colors
What color is greige?
Greige colors are those wonderful neutral hues that fall in between gray and beige. Hence the name, greige. They’re not super gray and not super beige. They’re perfect if grays are too cold and beiges are too warm. And many greiges are light to medium colors since they’re derived from beiges which are light to medium.
Is greige warm or cool?
Greige is on the cooler side of the spectrum but isn’t as cool as most grays. However, it’s warmer than beige colors.
Are you confused yet? If so, here’s a diagram to help you see where greiges fall on the color spectrum. Keep in mind that some colors could fall into different categories depending on who you ask. It’s somewhat subjective and we all see colors a little differently.
Color family | Compared to Greige |
---|---|
Gray | Cooler with more blue undertones |
Taupe | Warmer with more red, blue, and yellow undertones |
Beige | Warmer with more yellow and red undertones |
Cream | Warmer with more yellow undertones |
How does greige paint make a room feel?
Painting a room with greige paint will give it a calming, soothing feeling. It’s an unfussy color that’s not too cold, not too warm. Since it’s somewhat minimalistic, it might also have somewhat of a calming effect.
Is greige still popular in 2024?
Yes, greiges are more popular now than ever! Beiges and warmer colors are on the rise and cooler grays aren’t trending like they have been in the past few years. Greige colors serve as a good bridge between the popular warm, cozy colors and the cool grays that are losing steam somewhat in popularity.
But if you prefer grays to greiges or beiges, then by all means stick with what you love. Trends don’t really matter if you don’t like them or they don’t work in your home.
What is the most popular light greige paint color?
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray are the most popular greige colors. They’re neutral enough to work well with a variety of color tones and have enough color to be noticeable but not overwhelming. They’re both great whole house colors.
What is the best greige color with no undertones?
All greiges will have some type of undertones. But if you’re looking for one that doesn’t lean blue, purple, yellow, or red, take a look at Edgecomb Gray or Pale Oak, which is a little lighter. Both are best-selling colors and are loved by designers and homeowners.
Best places to use greige paint colors
Greige colors are ideal for rooms that face west or south and get plenty of natural light. Since they’re on the cooler side of the spectrum the warm natural light will help keep them from looking to cold.
And greige colors aren’t just for your walls! There are several other great places to use greiges in addition to being a your walls. Consider using it on these surfaces:
- Cabinets
- Trim
- Doors
- Built-in bookcases
- Furniture
- Ceilings
- Exterior siding or trim
What color trim goes with greige walls?
Neutral and cool whites and off whites look great with greige walls. These are the best ones to use:
- Super White
- Chantilly Lace
- Decorator’s White
- White Dove
- White Heron
Greige contrasting trim
A huge design trend we’re seeing is light walls with a trim color that’s a couple of shades darker. It gives a softer, updated look to your walls.
You can see an example in this gorgeous kitchen that has cabinets painted with Sherwin Williams Anew Gray and lighter Alabaster Walls. See more pairings of Alabaster with contrasting trim colors here: Alabaster Color Review & Palettes
