How to Create a Thanksgiving Table Scape
Today I’m joining some very talented blogging friends to share some ideas for getting your home ready for the Thanksgiving festivities. My friend Laura Ingalls Gunn from Decor to Adore is hosting the tour and you’ll definitely want to visit her for some lovely ideas. She is so extremely talented.
If you’re just heading over from White Arrows Home, welcome! Kristin always has the coziest, prettiest ideas! Be sure to visit her post if you haven’t already. And if you’re new here, you can find out more about the blog and me here: Start Here.
Here’s a peek at all the projects and you can visit all of them through the links at the bottom of this post.
I’ve put together a cozy table scape with navy blue, red, and pops of gold. I struggled a bit with creating this table scene, honestly. Since my stash/hoard is already too big and I’ve got a “use it or lose it” mantra these days, I wanted to only use things that I already had. That meant trying several versions until I got one that I was happy with.
Here’s the break down for this dressed-up table. It isn’t usually quite this formal, but I do use placemats and cloth napkins regularly.
Color Inspiration
Deciding on a color scheme is the first thing to do when planning your table. You can start with favorite dishes, flowers, or cloth napkins. I love finding something interesting to start with, whether it’s traditional colors or something bold and unique.
This vintage watercolor print from the thrift store was my inspiration for color. I wanted blues and warm hues like gold and red. I’ve had this for years and I think I paid $3.99 for it. Score!!
Shopping Resources
If you’re interested in creating a look like you see here, scroll to the bottom of the post where I’m sharing resources for the items I used in this project, or items as close as I could find that are currently available.
And this is what I used on the table.
My Wedding China, Crystal and Silver
What’s old is new again around here. Back in the 90’s we all registered for China, right? And although I’ve used ours occasionally, it’s still basically new. The dishes have a navy blue scroll design and a tiny reddish dot around the edge, so they fit the bill for this table. (I was thrilled when Erin from HGTV “Hometown” used these same dishes when staging one of their flips.)
We have Lenox McKinley crystal, Lenox Liberty China, and Oneida Golden Kenwood Silver if you’re curious.
Mismatched Block Print Fabric Napkins
I’ve really become smitten with all things block print and bought a bundle of 1/2 yard pieces last summer. 3 bundles, actually😁. And even though I love the fabrics when they’re simply folded and stacked, I wanted to use them on this table somehow. I sorted through all of them and found some pretty dark blue and gold prints that worked with my color scheme.

Simple Centerpiece
The centerpiece is simply a vintage wicker demijohn and some artificial maple leaves on top of a long cutting board. I added some little vintage brass candlesticks and various dried fruit and nuts for filler. Easy as pie.
Here’s how the whole table looks. Sweet and simple.

Hutch Decor
I didn’t do anything special over in the hutch that’s behind the table. The white ironstone goes with everything, and keeping it simple is my favorite thing these days. You can see how I’ve decorated in the past for various holidays here: Antique Hutch Decorating Ideas.
Thanksgiving Tiered Tray Decor Ideas
Decorating my tiered tray is such a fun little project. I love getting creative by borrowing things from around the house and displaying them here.
Things I’m Thankful For
My mom’s baby picture is probably my favorite thing on here. She was #8 of 11 children in rural Tennessee, so there aren’t many pictures of her when she was little. I’m very thankful for her.
Creative Planters
I couldn’t find the right size planter for my little faux eucalyptus plants, then I got the idea to use some of my vintage wood butter molds turned upside down. I removed the stamp and handle and they made perfect little planters!
Stacked China Teacups
For more filler, I added a couple of teacups and saucers from our China. You might remember seeing these when I decorated our formal China cabinet with blue and copper a couple of years ago. You can see what I did here: Old, New, Copper, and Blue Fall Decorating Ideas.
Vintage Bottles
Tinted bottles are the perfect addition to a tiered tray, and this vintage brown one is just right for Thanksgiving.
