Love vs Design Wallpaper Review

You know that feeling when you look at a room that you haven’t updated in 10+ years… the one that makes you think that it’s looking a bit stale and needs a little refresh. Well, I got that feeling several months ago about our hall bathroom.

bathroom with neutral walls and floor

Although it got a full blown remodel back in 2013, it was time to give it a little glam up. Enter Love vs Design. They reached out to me with an opportunity to use some of their wallpaper and it was the perfect time to tackle this project.

They contacted me several years ago with an opportunity to work with them, but I didn’t have a need for wallpaper at that time. So I was already somewhat familiar with them after looking them up online and loved their concept. Now that I’ve personally used their wallpaper I thought it would be a good idea to share my thoughts including what I like and don’t like. Here goes.

What I Like Best About Love vs Design Wallpapers

Let’s talk about the good stuff first.

Custom Colored Wallpaper

Oh my gosh, y’all. This part was a dream come true. Being a color nerd who creates custom paint color palettes, I loved the idea of choosing the colors for my wallpaper. There are 144 colors to choose from including a few metallics. The possibilities are mind-blowing. And I spent entirely too much time playing with the background and pattern colors.

Four types of Wallpaper Materials

You can choose from 4 different types of wallpaper materials for your project:

  • Glissade – Spray wall with water to apply. Eco friendly wallpaper. Removable with water. (This is what I used for our bathroom.)
  • Smooth Vinyl – Watersafe in kitchens and bathrooms. Easy to wipe clean. Recommended for children’s rooms.
  • Woven Fabric – Luxe fabric texture. Recommended for lower traffic areas. Peel to remove.
  • Grasscloth Vinyl – Embossed grasscloth texture. Requires professional installation Permanent – Professional removal required.

Large Samples Available & Recommended

All of the patterns, colors, and materials are available to sample for $6 each. This is a great way to see how they look in your own space. Here’s my first order of samples. I liked them but wanted a few more choices.

I ordered a total of 12 samples and they arrived within a few days after placing the order. Here’s the second batch which includes larges swatches of the colors I was most interested in.

More than 1500 Patterns to Choose From

With more than 1500 wallpaper designs it should be no problem finding one (or ten) that you like. And each one can be made with the colors you choose!

To help find just the right design, you can narrow the search by room, color, or collection.

“Love It” Guarantee

They offer an incredible guarantee. If you don’t love your order, they’ll reprint your wallpaper or mural for you for free, or you can return your items for a full refund. Learn more about it here: Love It Guarantee

You can also order wall murals and wall art in addition to all of the beautiful wallpaper designs.

Pre cut and numbered panels

Since the wallpaper comes in pre cut strips, you don’t have to worry about having too much waste. When placing your order you’ll input the width and height of the area you’re wallpapering and they do all of the proper measuring and cutting or the panels. They’re also numbered (unless each strip is exactly the same) which takes the guess work out of which order to hang them in.

What I Liked Least about Love vs Design Wallpaper

The Price

Yes, it’s expensive. But they run sales and it’s actually less than many other wallpaper brands. And it’s great quality wallpaper. Use the code LVE15F for 15% off your order.

Difficult to Decide

Have you ever heard of “The Paradox of Choice”? It’s actually a book, but the general idea of it is that more choice isn’t always better.

I really liked many of the designs and saved several of them to my “favorites”. Then I customized each one with colors that would work for this project. As someone who has a hard time making decisions I felt a little overwhelmed. Ordering samples definitely made a difference and helped me narrow down my choices to one that worked perfectly in our home.

Hanging Wallpaper Isn’t Fun

When I was in my 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s I would regularly repaint or re-wallpaper rooms in our home. And owning/working in a paint and wallpaper store meant I had easy and affordable access to everything I needed for any of these projects.

Now that I’m in my late 50’s my body no longer appreciates me doing this kind of project. But I’m sure I’ll be able to enjoy the wallpaper much longer than it takes to recover from installing it!

You can visit the “How To” page for installation tutorials and decide if this is a project you want to do yourself or hire a professional.

Installing the Wallpaper

The wallpaper I chose is Wild Tangles in Kale and Ceramic on glissade. I allowed myself three days to install our bathroom wallpaper and that’s what I needed. You can read my full tutorial here: How to Hang Wallpaper

Bathrooms are more challenging than other rooms because there are toilets, vanities, as well as windows and doors to cut around. But if you take your time it’s not that difficult.

wallpaper installation in a bathroom

We won’t talk about me having to replace the trap underneath the sink because I forgot to unhook it before I pulled the vanity away from the wall. Fortunately it was an easy and inexpensive fix.

I’m thrilled with how it all turned out. I didn’t replace anything else except the mirror. And I used artwork that I had in other rooms to add a fresh look. I also painted the base of the vanity a slightly darker shade of green than the wallpaper. (Sherwin Williams Vogue Green)
