Hello, friends! How about some uplifting, creative, and beautiful ideas for spring? This week I’m joining some of my talented home blogging friends to bring you some ideas for decorating your mantel, table, porch and deck, as well as some yummy recipes and crafty projects.
It’s all part of the Spring Ideas Tour, hosted by my dear friend Paula at Virginia Sweet Pea. There will be new ideas every day this week, so please visit each blog to see what they’re sharing. And get ready to be inspired by all of them! The links are at the bottom of this post so keep scrolling all the way down.
Today’s topic is mantels, and I’m sharing how I added some simple spring decor to my rustic outdoor mantel. I added this mantel to our covered deck area last summer and it’s been such a fun place to decorate for the seasons. For spring, I decided to use flowers and pastel colors.
I made this little fabric banner several years ago and thought it would be the perfect way to add some spring color here. It was so easy to make. I used some pastel fabric scraps and cut them into triangle shapes with my pinking shears. Then I simply used little clothespins to attach them to a long string of twine.
It doesn’t get any easier that that! You could probably use a hot glue gun to attach the fabric to the twine if you don’t have the little clothes pins. And old sheets or even clothing would work if you don’t have any fabric scraps.
I raided the house and my shop for everything else. Some height was needed to fill up the empty space in the middle of the mantel, so I borrowed my bird cage from our living room.
And btw, those wine corks have been collected over the past several years. We probably don’t drink more than a couple of times per month, to be honest. I just save the corks for some future unknown project. Hoarders do that, lol.
The cute little stool came from an estate sale several years ago. I painted it blue and distressed it, but it was already beat up when I got it. The pitcher are faux lavender are from my shop.
For the top of the mantel I wanted some texture so I used a grapevine wreath for that. The cathedral window adds some height, and the little boxwood topiaries add more texture and some color.
More robin eggs, some dried lavender, and a little cast iron bunny add to the spring theme.
The fabric banner was actually the last thing I added. I had everything else in place and felt like it needed a little something else to fill in the space. Nobody can ever accuse me of being a minimalist, lol.
A few faux peonies tucked into a vintage demijohn and a soft pink throw pillow on the chair add some pink to the mix. I love using pink accents in the spring.
And since I’m a total color nerd, I made a little spring color palette based on this vignette. The approximate paint colors are listed below.
Approximate paint colors, from my Benjamin Moore color deck:
- Yellow – Chatsworth Cream 225
- Pink – April Pink 2091-70
- Blue – Dusky Blue 1640
- Green – Douglas Fern 563
- Lavender – Crocus 1404
