How to Clean Your Microwave without harsh chemicals
Cleaning your microwave oven has never been easier and no harsh chemicals are needed with this all natural technique.
Cook Time 10 minutesminutes
Equipment
Coffee cup
Water
Paper towels or clean cloth
Lemon (optional)
Instructions
Grab a microwaveable coffee cup. If you don’t have one, I’ve got about 20 extras and can spare one (or ten). Just let me know since I need to purge that cabinet anyway. 🙂
Fill cup about 2/3 full of tap water. (Optional) If you have any lemons, add some fresh lemon juice to the water. Using water alone works just fine, and that’s how I usually do it. I happened to have lemons on the day I took these photos. You can also use lemon essential oil.
Microwave the cup of water for 5 minutes.
Allow steaming cup of water to sit in the microwave for 5 minutes. After the microwave stops, keep the door closed and then set the timer to let the cup of steaming water sit inside the microwave and let off some steam for another 5 minutes. Somewhat like putting your kids in time out. (The 5 minutes of letting off steam part, not the microwave part. Better be clear about that.)
Easily wipe off gunk. At the end of that 5 minutes, the steam from the water will have softened the gunk, so now all you will have to do is wipe it clean with some dry paper towels. This works great for food spills, but won’t necessarily remove stains. I haven’t found a great way to do that, but will share it if I find something that works.
Wipe glass tray. Remove the glass tray on the bottom and wipe it clean with some clean paper towels dipped in the hot water. The gunk comes off of it easily after being steamed. Sometimes I do have to actually use dish soap on it, but not usually. It just depends on what’s stuck to it.
