We all want our homes to look great. But sometimes it’s tough to narrow down the thousands of design choices that are available these days. I personally agonize over my own decisions, wanting to be sure I’m choosing something I can live with for a while. Or maybe you just don’t have the time to deal with all of it. I can help with all of this.

I’ve gotten several requests for doing online design consulting and wanted to answer a few questions for anyone who’s interested in this service. My services range from choosing a front door color to doing a whole house makeover and everything in between. Hopefully your questions about online consulting are answered here, but send me an email if you want to know anything else about it.

***Note: If you’re local and prefer an in-home consultation instead of an online one (in the Oak Ridge, Knoxville, or surrounding area) I can come to your home and help you with your colors and decor. We can look at paint colors for your home, shop for new things or use what you already have and create a new look for your space. I can also help stage your home for resale. My fees are $65 per hour (minimum) for local clients. Please email me at postcardsfromtheridge@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to schedule an appointment.**

Q. How does it all work?

A. I’ll send you a detailed questionnaire so I can get to know you and your style and more about the space you’re painting and decorating.  I’ll ask you about your preferences and tastes, as well as lighting and other conditions about the room(s) you want to redo.

Q. What are your qualifications?

A. I’ve been helping clients choose paint colors and decorate their homes for over 35 years. I owned a paint and decorating shop (with my husband) in Nashville for 13 years and helped thousands of our customers with paint colors, fabric selections, accessories, window treatments, and wallpapers.  We sold that shop in 2005 and I have been doing in-home consulting since then. My degree is in marketing, but I also studied interior design in college and have taken several courses on color theory.

Q. Do you offer additional design services?

A. Yes.  I can design an entire room for you.  I can help you with window treatments, blinds, fabrics, rugs, accessories, and furniture selections.  I have multiple sources that I can scour for you and build an inspiration board with links to everything. And if you need recommendations for bathroom or kitchen fixtures, I can assist with that as well. We’ve done 3 bathroom remodels in our house so I’m especially familiar with those.

Q. What are your fees?

A. For an online color consultation, the fee is $100 per room.  This includes a complete analysis of the space and your needs and vision for it.  You’ll get a color plan including color options and finishes.

For a room design, the fee is $200.  This also includes a complete analysis of the space.  You’ll get a design board for the room with sources for everything.

Q. What do I need to do?

A. If you would like to work with me, I’ll email a questionnaire for you to complete and return to me along with payment based on the number of rooms we’re working on.  Once I receive the questionnaire, I’ll go over it and see what else I need to know. I’ll probably want photos of your space as well as any rooms that inspire you so I can help you create the space you’re dreaming of.
