Lovesac Snugg Sofa Review and Thoughts

We recently updated our living room with a new sofa and chairs from the Lovesac Snugg line of furniture and I’m sharing our experience and thoughts in this post.

Lovesac Snugg Sofa Review and Thoughts

If you’re considering the Snugg sofa from Lovesac, you’ll want to read through my in-depth review. I’m sharing our experience with ordering, delivery, setup, and living with it. And I’m also answering several questions at the bottom of the post including a comparison between the features of the Snugg and Sactional sofas.

Full disclosure – I reached out to Lovesac because we love our sactional so much and wanted to try this new line in our living room. They sent me these pieces at no cost because I’ve been such a loyal and long term customer. But I’m sharing my honest opinions in my own words, including the good and bad.

Why did we choose the Snugg sofa and chairs?

While I loved the colors and style of our previous living room furniture, they weren’t holding up very well and the sofa was always too small at 65″. So many sofas today are enormous, and we don’t have an open floor plan or giant living room that’s necessary to accommodate them. I went with a small loveseat the last time we updated which was a mistake.

Our living room has always been a challenge as far as furniture arranging goes. It’s a wide, shallow room with a huge fireplace, three large windows, and wide openings to the entry and dining area. I’ve tried many different furniture pieces and arrangements during the past 20 years that we’ve lived here.

We knew that the room needed a sofa that wasn’t too small or too large, and the size of the Snugg sofa with swept arms at 87″ was perfect. (The Snugg sofa with tapered arms is 92″ wide, and with square arms is 90″ wide.) And since we’ve had our sactional from Lovesac for more than 7 years I knew that the Snugg would be just as durable with a lifetime warranty.

The Snugg sofa ordering process

We chose our fabric, arm style, cushion fill, and whether we wanted two or three cushions and placed our order.

There are several fabric options available including 12 quick ship fabrics (Etched Chenille, Vivid Velvet, and Heathered Weave) with delivery in 1-2 weeks. And there are 38 custom fabrics (Chenille, Leather, Phur, Polylinen, Speckled Textured Weave, Velvet, and Weave) that are delivered in 8 – 12 weeks.

Free Fabric Samples

I strongly suggest ordering fabric samples. You can get 5 for free and see how they look in your room. If those 5 don’t work, you can order 5 more for free. FYI – We chose the Morning Fog Vivid Velvet for our sofa, and the Twilight Navy Vivid Velvet for our chairs.

Standard vs Lovesoft Cushion Fill

With the Snugg products (as well as the Sactional) you have a choice of two different cushion fills. The standard fill is more firm and holds its shape well for years. The Lovesoft is a down blend and is more cloud-like and casual. It may require straightening more if you prefer a tidy look.

We have the standard fill cushions on our sactional and have loved it for more than 7 years. For the Snugg, we ordered standard for both the sofa and chairs. The sofa is comfortable, but the chairs were too firm. I don’t know if it was because they’re literally a snug fit within the frame and don’t have much room to expand, or what the reason was. But we exchanged them for Lovesoft cushions. There’s a big difference and the chairs are now extremely comfortable and lounge-y. It’s an upgrade but is worth it.

Ordering & Delivery

After placing the order, everything arrived in less than a week. I don’t know if that’s typical or not, but we were very pleased with how fast it all arrived.

The sofa components and cushions came in four boxes. Each chair also came in 4 boxes. FYI – some of the boxes are very heavy (150 lbs) and I recommend upgrading your delivery to “Over Threshold” if you’re not able to lift heavy boxes.

NOTE – Since boxes can get very dirty on delivery trucks, I recommend putting an old sheet or clean tarp on the floor before bringing them in.

Snugg Sofa Setup

After unboxing and unwrapping all of the components and cushions, I was ready to get started putting it all together. All of the hardware was included and no additional tools were needed.

The 2-seat Snugg sofa has the following pieces to cover and assemble:

• The back
• The beam (front)
• A right and left arm
• 2 seat cushions
• 2 back cushions

There’s also a suspension lid and storage sling that are part of the sofa but they don’t have covers.

We’re used to putting covers on our sactional and I thought these covers were actually easier to put on than those. I didn’t think it was difficult at all and the instructions were easy to follow. I’ll be adding a video of the process to youtube and will link to that as soon as it’s uploaded. What I like best about the Lovesac Snugg Sofa

I honestly love this almost everything about this sofa.

Size Matters

The size of this sofa is exactly what we’ve been needing in our living room. It’s large enough that 3 people can sit on it comfortably, or one person could lie down. It’s not bulky or chunky. And it’s not so big that we can’t move it to another part of the room if needed when we put up our Christmas tree. (I’ve already switched the sofa and chair positions. The sofa is now in front of the windows and the chairs are over where the sofa sits in this picture.)

Options

Being able to choose the arm style, cushion fill, fabric, and number of cushions is very nice. We choose the swept arms and the two cushion style for a slightly more tailored look. It’s ideal for our living room.

Pet-Friendly Fabric

Our previous furniture in this room was five years old and was starting to show a little wear from the cats. The fabric on the chair and ottoman was a chunky weave and it was difficult to get cat hair off of it, plus they liked to scratch it. The sofa fabric was chenille and was holding up better, but they still liked scratching the soft rolled arms. The Snugg sofa arms are much smaller, so hopefully they won’t be as tempted to scratch them. And we chose a non-woven velvet fabric which is so much easier to get cat hair off of.

NOTE – Although the pet hair comes off the velvet fabric easier than the chenille, the chenille fabric hides claw marks a little better. Our sactional is in the Beachwood rained chenille fabric and we’ve been able to compare the two types of fabrics.

What I like least about the Snugg Sofa

There are a few things that could be improved as well.

Assembly

Does anyone actually enjoy assembling furniture (or anything else)? I certainly don’t. But I was able to do it all by myself. My husband was here in case help was needed but I really wanted to see if I could do it alone, and I succeeded. I’m 58, in average condition and paced myself. I took my time, and assembled the sofa in about 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. If you have mobility or strength issues, you’ll want to recruit help.

Lack of add-ons

One of the many things we love about our Lovesac sactional is the accessories and add-ons like cupholders and coasters. These aren’t available yet for the Snugg line. For now I have some nice coasters on the arms of our sofa and chairs, as well as on small tables next to them.

Hopefully they’ll add accessories in the future as more people request them. The Snugg line is less than two years old, so I bet more add-ons and options are coming soon.

Chair cushions are firm

The chair cushions are smaller than our sofa cushions and seemed much more firm in comparison. Maybe because there’s not as much space to expand?? Update – I ended up exchanging the standard chair cushions for the Lovesoft ones and can tell a big difference and the chairs are super comfortable now.

Price

It’s not cheap, but they run sales often and you can get financing if needed. Plus you can get an extra 5% off with the Heroes discount if you qualify. The fact that you can change the covers, arms, and cushion fill and get a new look plus the lifetime warranty makes it a good long-term investment in your home and comfort.

Questions about the Snugg sofa

• Which options do you have? – We have Snugg 2-cushion sofa in Morning Fog Vivid Velvet with Swept Arms. (The Snugg chairs have swept arms as well, and are also vivid velvet in the Twilight Navy color with Lovesoft cushion fill.)
• Is it comfortable? – Yes! We chose the standard filled cushion and like the firmness of it. If you prefer a softer, less firm cushion then you might like the Lovesoft better. (Our chairs are Lovesoft.)
• Is it deep enough for tall people? – Yes, my husband is 6′ tall and it’s plenty deep for him.
• Can you lay down on it? – Yes. You’ll probably want to add a throw pillow since the arms aren’t overstuffed, but it’s definitely long and comfortable enough to lay down on, even for a 6′ tall person.
• Does the fabric shed/pill? – So far, so good. No shedding or pilling at all with the vivid velvet fabric.
• Do your cats scratch it? – No. They haven’t scratched it and love laying on it.
• Can you remove pet hair easily? – Yes. I can remove it by just rubbing my bare hand over it. We chose the Vivid Velvet fabric because of it’s pet-friendliness. (NOTE – we use this pet hair remover that has nearly 200,000 positive reviews on our chenille sactional and it works very well.)
• What can you store underneath the seat? – The storage is a sling that’s attached with super strong velcro. You could store pillows, throw blankets, or toys that aren’t too small. I have a heavy faux fur throw blanket in ours. (By the way, we LOVE the blanket too)
• How difficult is it to put together? – It’s not difficult, but does take some time. As I stated earlier, I’m 58, in average condition, and put it together by myself in about 2 1/2 hours.

Why didn’t we get a Sactional for this room?

NOTE – I have a side-by-side chart comparing the Snugg and Sactional further down in this post.

Our family room with the sactional couch is where we lounge and watch t.v. and where the kids play video games when they’re home. We absolutely love it in that room. But I didn’t want a sactional for the living room because it’s a little too casual for that specific room. Here’s how it looks in our family room.

Our house was built in 1964 and has a traditional living room. It’s where we sit when we want to carry on a conversation, read, or look out at the back yard. The smaller footprint and narrower arms of the Snugg sofa work in that space much better than the sactional.
