2026 Benjamin Moore Color of the Year Silhouette AF-655
The color of the year for Benjamin Moore has just been announced and it’s AF-655 Silhouette. I was a little surprised at this choice since it’s a bit dark and drab. But after learning more about it when I attended a webinar hosted by Benjamin Moore, I understand it so much better.
Does that mean I’m going to use it in my home? Probably not at this time, but I can definitely appreciate it for other people. Let’s dissect this chosen color and see what it’s all about and where it can be used.
How was Silhouette AF-655 chosen as the color of the year for 2026?
Although sometimes it seems like the color of the year comes out of nowhere, that’s not the case at all. The color experts at Benjamin Moore are constantly watching the trends at trade shows, exhibitions, and museums. They study what’s currently being seen in fashion, automobiles, and graphic design. And they pay close attention to what’s happening in our culture, economy, and environment.
Months of discussions lead them to a small number of colors until they narrow it down to a winner. Silhouette was selected for 2026 after recognizing several factors.
- A need for structure – the fashion industry is seeing an upward trend in more tailored, classic styling with detailing and good craftsmanship. Styles are moving away from the more casual work-from-home look that began in 2020, an we want clothing that’s more detailed but not too stuffy. Silhouette is reminiscent of a classic tailored suit with a modern, softer edge.
- Lasting style – society is growing tired of the micro trends that fade so quickly. We’re craving things that are timeless and classic and have staying power. Silhouette is a deep neutral color that can stand the test of time and won’t look dated next year. It can serve as the main attraction or be a backdrop to other colors.
- Classic architecture styles – in housing, walls are going back up and open floor plans aren’t nearly as popular as they have been in the past. Homes are going back to having crown molding, classic style furniture, and detailing like piping and hints of color.
