Walmart Plus vs Amazon Prime and Why We Switched
Recently we dropped Amazon Prime and are using Walmart+ whenever possible. I’ll explain all the reasons why in this post.

This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. I may make a small commission on products purchased with my link, but your price does not change. For full disclosure go here: Disclosure and Policies. Thank you for supporting my site.
Saving money is like a game to us these days, as it is with most people. But it’s even more so for us right now because my husband just left his job that he had been at for the past 15 years. We’re going to be okay and he has some potential job opportunities, but we’ve really tightened up our financial belt over the last few weeks.
Some days I spend a little too much time trying to find the best deal or coupon. (See my favorite ways to save on decorating here: How to Decorate on a Budget). And we’ve started shopping more often at Walmart for many reasons including budget-friendly items. I was really surprised at how stylish it has become recently. Have you shopped there lately? Anyway, I’m sharing some of my favorite finds here today and no, they’re not sponsoring this post. I just get excited over great deals and love sharing them here.
I’ve also scoured the Walmart website and have curated 18 different collections or groupings of items that I would be proud to have in my own home. The collections include coastal decor, decorator throw pillows that are all under $23, blue and white decor, classic clothing that looks like it came from a designer shop, and much more. Best Brand Partnerships at Walmart
Whatever you’re looking for you can probably find it at Walmart. From gardening to groceries, cleaners to clothes, they probably have it. And many items can be ordered easily online and picked up without ever setting foot in the store. Although sometimes shopping at Walmart can be a real adventure, if you know what I mean. (At least it is around here).
They’ve partnered with some pretty great brands and here’s a quick round up of my favorites.
Better Home and Gardens
Better Homes & Gardens has everything you can think of for your home at amazing prices and with stylish looks. I own one of the BHG egg chairs and we love it so much that we all fight over it. Even the kitties love it, haha. Wizard was snuggled up in it during the holidays and I snapped his picture.
These are the categories of products from the Better Homes & Gardens line:
- Furniture – I was surprised by all of the beautiful and affordable furniture in this collection. There’s even a line that was designed by Dave and Jenny Marrs from the HGTV show Fixer to Fabulous. I love their style. Here’s a peek at the BHG furniture line:
- Decor
- Bedding
- Bath
- Patio & Outdoor
- Storage and Organization

The Home Edit
We all need our homes to be a little more organized. And The Home Edit has everything to make it easier at Walmart prices.
The Pioneer Woman
One of the longest and best brands at Walmart is The Pioneer Woman. Her product line is full of fun, colorful kitchen items including dishes, cookware, appliances, linens, and she even has some clothing with her signature vintage florals.
Allswell
Allswell has everything you need here for a good night’s sleep from comfy mattresses, cooling sheets, soft pillows, and soothing fragrances. All of them have great ratings.
Free Assembly
Let’s not forget fashion! This classic line is made from organic cotton in Fair-Trade certified factories and looks like it cost much more than it does. There are dresses, tops, pants, and shorts and you can see them all here: Free Assembly . They’re comparable to Gap, J. Crew, and similar classic styles.

Benefits of Walmart+
You don’t need to be a Walmart+ member to shop at Walmart. But it does come with some benefits that you might want to take advantage of. Here are some of the perks:
1. Free Delivery of Groceries
The first time we had groceries delivered was back in 2020 and it was great. The grocery prices at Walmart are lower than most places. Plus with a Walmart+ membership you’ll get free grocery delivery with a minimum purchase of $35, and we know you can reach that amount pretty quickly.
2. Free shipping with no order minimum
You don’t have to place a big order to take get free shipping. We’ve ordered light bulbs, cat food, and more and enjoyed free shipping right to our front door.
3. Early access to sales
Your Walmart+ membership gives you early access Black Friday sales, Walmart+ week deals, special product releases, and more.
4. More benefits
- Book your travel through Walmart+ and get up to 5% Walmart Cash that can be spent in store on items you already were going to buy anyway.
- Video streaming with Paramount+.
- Tire repair and road hazard warranty.
- Mobile scan and go – scan your items as you shop in store and pay as you leave. Easy as pie.
Walmart+ vs Amazon Prime
Now you’re wondering if it’s worth it to switch, aren’t you? One of the biggest advantages is the difference in price. And the last few orders we placed with Amazon were NOT delivered in two days like they used to be. Yet they had a price increase for prime membership. Receiving less while spending more is never a good thing.
Full disclosure – I’m not going to completely stop shopping at Amazon (or sharing deals from there). That’s probably not even possible, lol. I’m just going to try to find what I need at WM first. 😊
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of that biggest perks:
Walmart+ | Amazon Prime | |
---|---|---|
Membership fee | $12.95/month or $98/annually | $14.99/month or $139/annually |
Grocery Delivery | Free with $35 order, included with membership fee | $9.99 additional per month to receive free delivery on $35 orders |
Free Shipping | No minimum order (items sold by Walmart, not marketplace) | Free shipping on prime items when minimum is met (this varies) |
Gas | Save .10 per gallon at 13,000 locations nationwide | Amazon doesn’t sell gas that I’m aware of |
Returns | Returns picked up from your home. Free 90-day window. | Must drop off at authorized site. 30-day window. |
Plus there are currently some limited time offers like discounts on Apple music, Youtube premium, and more at Walmart+.
Amazon Prime does have more features like gaming, reading, photos, and prescriptions, so you do need to consider if it’s worth it for those things. And it has more products, but I’m trying to save money and don’t need all of those temptations anyway. 😁
The biggest perk
One of the best things about shopping at our local Walmart is that it supports our community by providing jobs and contributing taxes for schools, roads, etc. And any item that they have in stock can be ordered online and picked up curbside the same day! You gotta love that.

What do you think? Are you already a Walmart shopper or do you prefer Amazon? Do tell!
We have had a Walmart membership since 2020 and I use it all the time for grocery delivery since I get headaches from shopping in stores due to the increase of fragrance used. They immediately refund any items that I don’t like or have damage without having to return them to the store. They ship for free items in my checkout basket that aren’t available. They text with you as they shop as to substitutions. If clothing doesn’t, is poor quality or wrong in some way it’s easy to make returns to the store with the app. I only wear cotton or linen and the Free Assembly line is great. We’ve used them many times to send groceries to family and friends when they are ill. I also use Prime
but often Walmart prices are better on household supplies so I always compare. I didn’t know about
Video streaming with Paramount+ or Mobile scan and go. Where would I find out about that?
Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience. We’ve just started using them so I don’t have much history to go on yet. I’m looking forward to trying some of the Free Assembly pieces. They look really comfortable and classy. Here’s more info on the streaming and scan and go and all the other member benefits – https://walmrt.us/3xuk9YR Thanks again, and have a great day! ~ Angie
