Tips for Adding Summer Touches to the Living Room and Breakfast Room

/ / /

Here we are in July already. Can you believe it? The summer is half over! And after a busy June I’m just now getting around to sharing our summer decor. Just a few tweaks here and there, but enough to brighten things up and give it a summer vibe around the house. Come on over and take a little tour and see a few simple ways to add summer decor to your home.

The breakfast room hutch got refreshed with some blue dishes and white pitchers. This gets changed out 3 or 4 times per year depending on the season. I’m a dish hoarder…what can I say?

Some blue toile placemats that I’ve had for years complete the blue and white theme in here. And the bright yellow flowers in a white enamel pitcher add the perfect punch of color. Add in our white Fiesta dishes (they were wedding gifts 24 years ago!), some white monogrammed napkins tied with blue polka dot ribbon that I found in my craft studio, and you have a summer styled table.

Next door in the living room the blue and white continues with accents of yellow and red added in for variety.

I made the blue and white artwork a couple of months ago and love the look. They’ll be easy to change out whenever I get tired of those colors and prints. To see how I made these, go here. They’re extremely simple and very affordable.

And if you want a simple update to your sofa and like the look of our slouchy slipcovered sofa, you can simply use a painter’s drop cloth and tuck it in. Quick, easy, and cheap.

Nothing says summer like lemonade. I picked up the fun glasses a few years ago at a yard sale. And I just scored the tray last week from Decor Steals. They always have deals on the neatest farmhouse decor.

That’s about it for the breakfast room and living room. Stay tuned for summer updates to the master bedroom and (finally) a reveal of our half bath remodel.

What summer touches have you added to your home?

  5. Unfortunately I think it's going to be fall before I get a chance to decorate the inside of the house. I really want to start repainting some of the rooms in our house so I'm not in the mood to do anything — especially since I'm trying to catch up with posts — my computer decided to quit working. I love your decorating ideas and I always use your tips. Thank you for sharing and have a Great Independence Day!!

    1. So sorry about your computer! That's frustrating. A pitcher or vase of flowers might just be the perfect thing for you. It will brighten your day and the house. Good luck with your painting projects! It's always a good feeling when those are finished.
